South African LOA certification

Product range:

The South African National Compulsory Regulation Implementation Act (Act 5 of 2008) was promulgated on July 4, 2008 in Government Gazette 31216 and was enforced on September 1, 2008, under the control of the South African institution NRCS. NRCS is the abbreviation of the National Regulator of Compulsory Specification, which is the national mandatory requirement management department in Chinese. Its predecessor was the regulatory department for SABS certification, and it has since become an independent department.

All electronic and electrical products that meet the requirements, whether exported or sold in the South African market, must apply to NRCS for an authorization letter as a customs clearance and sales pass.

The certification of electronic and electrical products is mainly divided into two aspects: safety regulations and electromagnetic compatibility. For safety, you must obtain the LOA (letter of authority) certificate, and for electromagnetic compatibility, you must obtain the COC (certificate of compliance) certificate. Here are the explanations of important terms:

1. NRCS: It is the issuing authority for LOA certificates.

2. SABS: It is the certification authority for COC certificates and SABS logo certification. South African Bureau of Standards (SABS)

Responsible for braking South African standards, and also engaged in certification and testing work.

3. LOA certification: letter of authority, specifically for security aspects.

4. COC certification: Certificate of Compliance, specifically for EMC.

5. SABS certification: This certification is voluntary. The requirements are relatively strict, requiring the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) to arrange factory inspection and testing, and there will be two annual audits after certification.

Product Scope

Electronic and electrical products listed in mandatory regulations fall into the following five categories:

1. Household and similar use products;

2. Information technology products;

4. Handheld electric tools;

5. Wire and cable.
